Name Sake
The Harris Institute is named in honor of Dr. Antipas' parents, both of whom were dedicated educators. His father, the late Bishop Dr. James L. Harris, served as a high school English teacher for 34 years before his retirement. In the 2024-2025 academic year, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters by his alma mater, LaGrange College, where he and Dr. Carolyn earned their master’s degrees. Dr. Antipas’ mother, Dr. Carolyn J. Harris, is currently a preschool teacher and holds a Doctor of Education degree in Instructional Leadership and Early Childhood Education.
Dr. James and Dr. Carolyn founded A House of the Living God, Church of Jesus Christ in Manchester, GA. +Dr James served as the pastor for over 50 years until his passing in November 2024. The couple also established Christian Way Academy in 1984, which operated for 30 years before closing in 2014. Antipas and his seven siblings are proud graduates of the former Christian Way Academy. Growing up, their parents instilled in them the motto: “Jesus plus education equals success.” The values-driven training provided by +Dr James and Dr. Carolyn equipped each of their children with a strong commitment to faith and a keen work ethic, which has propelled their success in various fields, including law, education, business, psychology, music, and acting.

Dr. James and Dr. Carolyn extended their influence beyond their own children to their local church and the wider community. They inspired and trained numerous young people who might not have pursued an educational path otherwise. They dedicated their time and resources to promote faith and learning. Through their ministry, many individuals have come to faith, and many have achieved success thanks to their lifelong inspiration. The Harris Institute stands as a tribute to James and Dr. Carolyn Harris' commitment to faith and education.
